LEARNING OUTCOMES for Grade 4 in Dance^®

for successful progression to Grade 5 in Dance:

The ballet vocabulary in this class increases in complexity with longer sequences meant to enhance recall and endurance.

Ballet technique builds upon prior Grade 3 dances with additional new ballet vocabulary. Pirouettes (en dedans and en dehors) challenge students ability and endurance. The allegros build a dancer’s stamina, use of the room, and strength while testing their memory. The Grade 4 in Dance variations contrast a lovely classical dance from “The Seasons” and a very showy “Caboret” dance that uses a watering can prop. Both variations build upon the new Grade 4 ballet vocabulary that shows a broader knowledge for these intermediate level students.

This intermediate level ballet class follows the safe teaching practices of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD). By following those guidelines, students develop as solid dancers, confirmed with their RAD assessments held each Spring. Students are rewarded with an accurate and unbiased review of their progress each spring via our formal RAD exam sessions.

Learning Outcomes for Grade 4:

To be able to demonstrate appropriate technique through the performance of movement sequences of the classwork and be able to show awareness of musicality throughout. Dances include a classical ballet, neo-classical, and a character dance which shows off a dancer’s awareness of performance skills at this specific level.

These skills are:

Correct weight placement with secure use of torso
Coordination with harmonious relations of arm, legs and head
Control with sustained and balanced movements
Line – to demonstrate a range of lines through the body
Spatial awareness, Effective use of peripheral and performance and space
Dynamic values – to perform responding to music

Proper turnout, developed each week in the Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) session, helps bodies use the correct muscles to safeguard against injury.

We encourage our students to engage in multiple dance styles. Grade 4 dancers should also enroll in our Intermediate Modern & Lyrical | ABCBend

Yearly Tuition, divided evenly in 10 monthly installments includes:

Two weekly Grade 4 classes and a Progressing Ballet Technique (strengthening and stretching) session that occurs during the weekly scheduled class time
RAD Examination
One Mock Exam prior to formal exams to familiarize dancers of the process
One Royal Academy of Dance exam taken each Spring
Character skirt and shoe rental
Any props necessary for Exam Session
Achievement Ceremony
Parent observation weeks – 1 week each month. Come see their progress!

Your registration fee and class fee (for uniform), is due upon registration and reserves your dancer’s place in class. Monthly autopay for your tuition fees are charged on the 1st beginning September 1st and ending June 1st.

June Production

Dancers pay monthly installments for the June show alongside class tuition.

Mid-Year Registration:

Registration is open through January 15th and includes your place in the cast for the year-end June production.

Catch up fees may apply to cover production and exam expenses. Monthly tuition is prorated based on when you begin your first class.

DRESS & BEHAVIOR CODE

Ballet begins with a code of conduct and appearance honed over many centuries. We subscribe to always looking and doing our best. “To be a dancer, one must look like a dancer.”

For your convenience, a one time “class fee” covers the RAD regulation class uniform:

You may receive your uniform all at once or in pieces as you need throughout the year.

Some returning dancers already have their complete uniform and may contact the studio to waive what our system calls a “class fee” (for your uniform)

WHAT TO WEAR?

We have everything they will need. Your registration includes all that’s needed to twirl into the stars.
Please schedule personalized (call 541-382-4055 to schedule) dance wear fitting well before their first class.

What you’ll receive at your personalized fitting appointment:

Girls
- Teal RAD regulation tank leotard with matching belt , bras must be hidden under leotard – NO sports bras please.
- Nude camisole
- Ballet tights in “convertible” style, in pink or skin color
- Pink or skin colored full-soled leather ballet shoes
- Hair – secured into a classical ballet bun. Short hair may be held off the face with a headband and be in a ponytail if long enough. A starter package of hair items, hairnet, pins, ponytail elastic is provided; our gift to you!
