R.A.D Grade 5 in Dance^®

Open to those who have already taken RAD Grade 4 or by teacher approval.

RAD Grade 5 in Dance advances on ballet skills learned in Grade 4, introducing new vocabulary. Dancers work on perfecting pirouettes, gaining stamina for longer adage enchainements, and allegro dynamics to gain stronger turnout to allow for safe work from 5th position. Greater attention to pleasing use of the arms are necessary to learn this level’s variation – an adaptation of the Kitri variation from the ballet Don Quixote.

Much as with the Grade 4 in Dance curriculum, this next level challenges dancers with stronger use of posture and proper turnout. Proper turnout, developed each week in the Progressing Ballet Technique session, helps bodies use the correct muscles to safeguard against injury.

Grade 4 and earlier by:

Yearly Tuition, divided evenly in 10 monthly installments includes:

Two weekly Grade 5 classes and a Progressing Ballet Technique (strengthening and stretching) session that occurs during the weekly scheduled class time
RAD Examination, taken in the Spring
One Mock Exam prior to formal exams to familiarize dancers of the process
One Royal Academy of Dance exam taken each Spring
Character skirt and shoe rental
Any props necessary for Exam Session
Achievement Ceremony
Parent observation weeks – 1 week each month. Come see their progress!

Your registration fee and class fee (for uniform), is due upon registration and reserves your dancer’s place in class. Monthly autopay for your tuition fees are charged on the 1st beginning September 1st and ending June 1st.

WHAT TO WEAR?

Grade 5 dancers must always come properly dressed in the class uniform.

For your convenience, a one time “class fee” covers the RAD regulation class uniform:

You may receive your uniform all at once or in pieces as you need throughout the year.

Some returning dancers already have their complete uniform and may contact the studio to waive what our system calls a “class fee” (for your uniform).

Girls
- Red RAD regulation tank leotard with matching belt (bras must be hidden under leotard – NO sports bras please.
- Ballet tights in “convertible” style, in pink or skin color
- Pink or skin colored full-soled leather ballet shoes
- Hair secured into a classical ballet bun or ponytail. Short hair may be held off the face with a headband
- Optional- ballet sweater (not included)
Please, no leg warmers.

CHARACTER ITEMS: (rental use included or available for purchase)
- Black circular character skirt
- Black character shoes, Cuban heel
Boys
- White tank or short-sleeved leotard, and a male dance belt
- Navy stirrup tights or ankle leggings, white socks
- White dance socks
- White leather full-soled ballet shoes
- Hair – if long – pulled from the face in a low ponytail
CHARACTER ITEMS: (rental use included or available for purchase)
- Black character shoes

DRESS & BEHAVIOR CODE: Tuition includes RAD’s Regulation Uniform, listed below.

As we are a family, every student, family member must graciously greet each other warmly. Kindness is foundational to ABCBend’s culture.

All upper level dancers must come properly attired for every class:

FEMALES
Leotard: Regulation tank or camisole
BRAS: must be hidden under leotard – NO sports bras please. A nude camisole with an attached bra is preferred.
Feet: Pink (or skin color) full-sole leather ballet shoes
Hair: Secured into classical ballet bun – neatness counts
MALES
Leotard: White tank or short-sleeved leotard, boys dance belt
Tights: Light gray stirrup or ankle leggings
Feet: White full-sole leather ballet shoes & white dance socks
Hair: If long, must be secured off face and neck
