R.A.D. Upper Grade 6
Eligible to add an upper level Modern Dance, Lyrical, or Contemporary
Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Grade 6. Dancers must have taken RAD Grade 5 or have teacher approval to enter this level.
This level begins a series of 3 distinct ballet styles of the Romantic era featuring softness, quickness of feet, and an underlying strength of technique. Many ballets, such as Giselle, Swan Lake, and La Sylphide, to name a few, use this style of dance. Grade 6 includes the style of Marie Taglioni who famously tested her ability to hold positions during long musical phrases.
Much is asked of students of this level, for longer sequences require incredible technical ability while enjoying the talents of our accompanist for a test of musicality.
Grade 6 students perform with a partner working in tandem and in opposition, mirroring each other. This gives dancers an opportunity to enhance performance and musicality, and students thoroughly enjoy these enchainements (exercises).
RAD exams are held each Spring at our (RAD approved examination centre) studio. “UCAS tariff points for Graded and Vocational Graded Examinations in Dance at Level 3 were confirmed in August, meaning those candidates who have achieved a Pass or higher at Grades 6–8, Intermediate or Advanced Foundation can use their exam result as contributing towards their points tariff when applying to a university or Higher Education institution in the UK. “ (Royal Academy of Dance, 2025)
Grade 6 dancers are requested to take the Intermediate Modern & Lyrical | ABCBend class to enhance their enjoyment and expand abilities.

Some returning dancers already have their complete uniform and may contact the studio to waive what our system calls a “class fee” (for your uniform).
